Commercial Bank of Kuwait CEO’s Participation in Qatar Economic Forum 2023

Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Bank of Kuwait, Ms. Elham Mahfouz, has participated in Qatar Economic Forum 2023 Powered by Bloomberg Media, recently held in Qatar, Doha. The Forum was inaugurated under the patronage of his Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani, with participation of over 32 official delegations from world countries and more than two thousand participants from inside and outside Qatar.

Ms. Elham Mahfouz participated in the Forum discussions. The Forum, in a session, discussed the significance of governments’ intervention in case banks face adverse implications due to current economic and financial conditions.

In another session, Commercial Bank of Kuwait’s CEO spoke about the banking sector in the GCC countries. She emphasized the strong performance of the Kuwaiti banking sector and the high profitability ratios of Kuwaiti banks in 2022.

According to Ms. Mahfouz the role of the regulatory authorities represented by the Central Bank of Kuwait, its directives, prudent and conservative management approach of the Kuwaiti banking sector greatly contributed to safeguarding that vital sector of the economy amidst the global turmoil that the world undergoes. She further highlighted the role of risk management functions at banks and their conservative views towards expansion in credit lending. Ms. Mahfouz underlined that expansion in granting credits should be based on due diligence studies and sound grounds.

This year’s edition of the Qatar Economic Forum entitled “A New Global Growth Story” shed light on the latest trends in finance, energy, healthcare, technology, digitization and their role in driving future growth, through a series of meetings, discussion sessions and interactive workshops. During the Forum, ideas, views and perspectives were shared between experts and emerging voices from around the globe to identify the latest economic trends.

The Forum, with its laser-like focus on major economic issues, provided insights on the present global economy to forecast its future focusing on global challenges that affect societies and economies around the world. Elite influential business leaders, academics and heads of states have participated in the Forum activities, to highlight the necessary tools and techniques to drive forward the global economy.
