Al-Tijari Inaugurates "Al-Tijari 8th Hobbyist Exhibition"
For the eighth year in a row, Commercial Bank of Kuwait organized and inaugurated "Al-Tijari Hobbyist Exhibition" at Dar of Sheikh Salem Al Ali Al Sabah under the patronage of Sheikha Nouf Salem Al Ali Al Sabah - Head of Advertising & Public Relations Department and in the presence of Mr. Ali Al Awadhi, the Bank's Chairman. The three-day-exhibition, received a number of visitors and staff members, and upon participants' request, the exhibition was extended for one additional day to last for four days in total. The Exhibition encompasses a wide variety of handcrafts produced and designed by the Bank's employees in their leisure times in addition to an assortment of popular designs, accessories and other crafts which accommodate all tastes and satisfy the Exhibition visitors' needs.
Message from the Chairman
It is a pleasure for me to meet you once again in this issue of Tijari News to cast light on the Bank's achievements over the past period. After more than two years since the emergence of the global financial crisis which hit hard the world markets and economies as well as Arab and GCC countries and Kuwait being no exception, signs of recovery and return of economic and financial activities to its normal cycle began to bloom. The global financial meltdown adversely affected banks, financial institutions and investment companies on global, regional and local level and banks and financial institutions became more vigilant and alert in terms of offering credit subsequent to the excessive extension of credit facilities which markets have been seen prior to the global financial turmoil. The financial and regulatory authorities in Kuwait adopted a prudent approach while dealing with the ramifications of the global financial crisis, where the regulators and financial authorities issued a package of procedures and remedies to stimulate financial stability in Kuwait, and we can see now the flexibility of Kuwait economy and its ability to recover and overcome the implications of the financial crisis.
With regard to our Bank financial results for the 1st quarter of 2011, our Bank has achieved operating profits in excess of KD 24 million and the major portion of these profits was allocated to the judgmental provision base the bank has maintained. However, with the efforts and dedication of our staff members, CBK will achieve further advances and success that we will pass in review together in the coming issues of Tijari News, and we will further continue to provide our customers with state-of-the-art-banking products and services that will confirm to all CBK customers and non-customers that "Al-Tijari… My Choice".
CBK Celebrates the Graduation of the Employees Participating in the Employment & Training Program
In the presence of the Bank's executive management team and Ms. Elham Mahfouz, Acting Chief Executive Officer & a gathering of other bankers, Commercial Bank of Kuwait celebrated the graduation of a group of its employees who successfully and outstandingly passed the Program designated for Recruiting & Training Kuwaiti Fresh Graduates in the Banking Sector, which program is being sponsored by the Central Bank of Kuwait and managed by the Institute of Banking Studies. Al-Tijari News congratulates all graduates.
On the Occasion of Concluding the "Financial and Banking Highlights" Program IBS Honors CBK Chairman
The Institute of Banking Studies held a closing ceremony of the TV Program "Financial and Banking Highlights" which comes to complement phase one of the "Financial and Banking Awareness" project. The event was organized in the presence of local banks' representatives who participated towards the success of the program. Dr. Yacoub Al Rifai IBS Director honored Mr. Ali Al Awadhi, CBK Chairman for CBK's sponsorship and participation in this program.
Al-Tijari Sponsors Radisson Blu 16th Annual Art Drawing Contest
Commercial Bank of Kuwait Sponsored the 16th annual art drawing contest organized by the Radisson Blu Hotel. A number of private school and physically challenged students aging from 12 to 18 years have participated in the contest this year.
The designated assessment committee has selected the best 15 paintings out of 250 paintings in total. Two paintings of the selected paintings were produced by physically challenged students while 5 were produced by "My First Account" customers. CBK's sponsorship of this competition aims at helping participants demonstrate their artistic talents, enhance their skills, occupy their leisure time, boost their awareness of the role of genuine art and most importantly get the physically challenged students positively interacting with other students.
Advertising and Public Relations Department has honored the physically challenged winners who were accompanied by their families and offered them memorial gifts to encourage them develop their drawing talents.
CBK Honors Call Center Staff
The Call Center held an honoring party for the employees with outstanding performance for the 1st quarter of 2011, where appreciation certificates were awarded to Mr. Yaseen Khan and Mr. Ali Zakaria in recognition of their significant role and performance in temporarily assisting the Card Center for a period of one month. Call Center top performer staff members were honored and awarded certificates of appreciation where Ms. Noura Hussein was ranked first and Mr. Ahmad Ismaeil was ranked second and Mr. Hesham Al Khudairi was ranked third. Furthermore, staff members working were honored and a certificate of appreciation was awarded to Mr. Jassim Khedada who was ranked first.
Sponsorship Corporate Governance Challenges Conference
Commercial Bank of Kuwait sponsored a conference on Corporate Governance Challenges in the Gulf region which was organized by the American University in Kuwait and introduced by the Gulf Studies Center. Important & vital topics of interest to the GCC and the neighboring countries were in the conference given the importance of Corporate Governance in contemporary life. CBK sales team who was present throughout the conference responded to the visitors' queries by providing first hand knowledge and details on the banking products and services offered by Al-Tijari. The Bank, sponsorship of this conference reflects its endeavors to be present in all educational activities tailored for university students on one hand and its effort to get the youth familiarized with the benefits of working in banking sector on the other hand.
Honoring the Winning Staff in the Insurance Product Sales
Commercial Bank of Kuwait and AIG Company have honored Mahmoud Al-Zubaidi from Khaitan Branch who ranked first in the sale of insurance products related services provided by the Bank to its cardholder in year 2010. This honor comes in recognition of the commendable efforts and prominent performance of Khaitan Branch members and their efforts in achieving the highest sales in relation to travel insurance service offered by the Bank to its cardholders, in addition to their outstanding role towards customers service.
CBK Sponsors the 3rd Forum for the Basic Education Faculty
In keeping with the Bank's active community interaction, the Bank has patronized the Third Forum of the Basic Education Faculty under the caption "Education Amidst Challenges and Contemporary Variables". The Bank's participation and sponsorship of this event accentuates its ongoing support to the events organized by the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.

Al-Tijari Participates in the 16th Future Maker & Employment Opportunities Exhibition
Commercial Bank of Kuwait participated in "The 16th Future Maker & Employment Opportunities Exhibition" organized by the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Kuwait University. In another endeavor for enhancing direct communication with CBK customers and non-customers on its "Twitter Official Page", the Bank has launched its campaign which provided the browsers of its page on the social network site "Twitter" the chance to communicate with the Bank and win iPad2. At the end of the campaign the Bank organized a draw for participants and awarded prizes to the six lucky winners. Commercial Bank of Kuwait sponsored the honoring party for Fahaheel National School for Girls where the school outstanding students were honored in the presence of their teachers and their families. A number of the students participated in the celebration by presenting diversified educational and entertainment activities. Sponsoring such events by the Bank emphasizes its social role that focuses on supporting the diverse educational, developmental and cultural activities.
CBK Arranges Field Visit for Schools' Students
Commercial Bank of Kuwait arranged field visits for the students of Bayan Bilingual School among other schools to South Surra Branch to get school students familiarized with the nature of banking business. The visit comes to complement the Bank's earlier initiative that started in February this year and which aims at fostering its concern with the youth segment and its endeavors to participate in any activities that benefit school students.
